Reiki was developed as an enlightenment system and a healing system by Mikao Usui in Japan,
in the early 1900's. In the West, it is taught most as a healing system. It helps you to heal yourself and the others by laying
your hands. Reiki is a very simple system, easy to learn and to use and everybody can practice it. In order to heal with this
system, you need to be initiated (or attuned) to the Reiki energy. The healing is made by laying your hands on you or other
person or by distance.
The word “Reiki” contents two separate Kanji words: “Rei”, which means “universal”
and “Ki” which means “energy” or “spirit”. It is pronounced “ray-key”. The
most used definition of Reiki is “the universal energy of life” or “universal life energy”. The energy
is everywhere around us, in us. In me, in you, in trees, stones, air.
The two Kanji words can also mean enlightenment.
